SMALL LANDSCAPING TREE HIGHLIGHT: Amelanchier x grandiflora 'Autumn Brilliance'
Autumn Brilliance Serviceberry is a versatile, deciduous tree that can also be grown as a multi-stemmed shrub. Many love them for its copper-red fall foliage, and fragrant white flowers in the spring. Amelanchier produces delicious fruit in the summer called Juneberries that are vital to wildlife and bird gardens. Berries resemble blueberries in taste and may be used in jams, jellies and pies. Easily grown in average, medium moisture, well-drained soil in full sun to part shade. Tolerant of a somewhat wide range of soils, but prefers moist, well-drained loams. Root suckers are common, and if not removed, will result in a shrubby growth habit for the plant. This cultivar reportedly has excellent disease resistance.
Attractive as an understory tree/shrub for lawns, shrub borders, woodland margins or native plant areas. Shrub forms can be grown as tall informal hedges or screens. Good plant for bird gardens (birds love the berries).
